The Mileage Reimbursement Program

The Mileage Reimbursement Program was created by NVTA to encourage volunteer based transportation for seniors and persons with disabilities who cannot drive and do not have access to public transit. Participants identify a volunteer driver to transport them to qualified medical or grocery trips and we will reimburse the mileage.  Applicants must be county residents, live outside public transit service boundaries or be attending a medical appointment outside the service boundaries.

Who can qualify for this program?

Applicants must meet all of the following requirements:

· A Napa County resident of 65 years of age or older and/or a person with disabilities.

· Unable to drive.

· Live outside public transit service boundaries or be attending a medical appointment outside the service boundaries.

· Travelling to/from a medical appointment or grocery trip that cannot be reached by other forms of public transportation.

(One example of living outside public transit service boundaries would be living in the outskirts of a City in Napa County; an example of medical appointments outside service boundaries would be St. Helena Hospital and/or appointments outside Napa County).

What kind of trips can be reimbursed?

We will reimburse for the miles for medical appointments and grocery trips only. Medical trips can be made outside the County of Napa. Grocery and pharmacy trips must be within Napa County to the nearest reasonable location in proximity to the individual’s home.

What is the reimbursement per Mile?

We reimburse *0.54 cents per each mile. For instance, if the total round trip mileage for a medical appointment is 50 miles, it will be 0.54 cents X 50 miles = $27 of reimbursement for that trip.  We reimburse a minimum of 18 miles per month.

*The Mileage Reimbursement Program must follow the standard mileage rate provided by the IRS. If the standard IRS mileage rate changes, MRP will have to change to the current rate.

Who can be my volunteer driver?

A volunteer driver can be a friend, family member, neighbor, etc. A rider using this program can choose as volunteer drivers as they would like. When the rider receives their mileage reimbursed, they can reimburse their volunteer driver(s). The rider is responsible to reimburse their volunteer driver(s).
